Open calls for submissions!
I can self-publish and keep all the royalties for myself. Why should I work with you?
Chaos and Ink Books fully supports the indie community and truly believes books and publishing should be open and accessible to all. Not all authors want or need to work with a publishing company - and that’s okay! But not everyone has the time and effort available, or the know-how to publish a book all on their own. If you have a great fantasy story but don’t feel up to the task of editing, formatting, cover designing, distributing, and selling all on your own, then we would be pleased to consider adding your novel to our catalog.

Does that mean you are a vanity press?
No, we are a traditional-style publisher and you will never pay us! You still have to submit your manuscript for consideration and go through a rigorous editing process. We will never ask you for any fees and we require a contract for a royalty split with all our novel and novella authors that protects your rights and our liabilities. Those who are published in our anthologies receive a one-time payment for the right to publish.

But I see you also offer paid editing, formatting, and cover services?
Yes, these services are provided separately from the publishing imprint and are for authors who do not plan to publish with us but need professional services for their manuscript. As a matter of ethics, if we have been paid to edit your manuscript, we will not accept that same manuscript as a novel submission. However, you may submit manuscripts we have not been contracted to work on.
Please keep in mind, publishing is a two-way street. While we will not accept books that do not meet our criteria and standards, we expect the same discernment from our authors. If our mission, contract terms, or goblin-chaos ways are not a good fit, we understand and encourage you to choose the best publishing path for you and your goals. Remember: Authors should not compete against each other, but rather collaborate for a more inclusive, empathetic world.
