Chaos and Ink is proud to announce that our first anthology is releasing August 1st, 2025!

Back in January, we opened our submissions for a fairy-themed anthology, Flippin’ Fairies. We wanted pieces that were clearly inspired by existing fairy folklore, but used in new ways, unusual situations, or otherwise flipped in some way. As a brand new press with very little visibility, I knew the chances of us getting a decent number of submissions were slim and we were prepared to delay the project another 6 months, if necessary.

Lo and behold, we did receive enough pieces to move forward with the project. Each had exactly what I was looking for: humor, shenanigans, a little something unexpected. It’s not a big book, but it exactly fulfills the vision I had and will make an excellent first mutli-author offering.

This is the first in a set of four similarly-themed anthologies, so keep on the look out for the next open call January 2026.

Why the theme Flippin’ Fairies?

As I’ve mentioned numerous times, my work is inspired by the mythology and folklore I read as a young child. It wasn’t until I was well into adulthood I managed to find that same folklore used in modern plots and genres. Holly Black, Laurell K Hamilton, Rick Riordan, and the like. Very modern stories featuring classic folklore/myth creatures. It was the perfect blend for me, but I wanted more. Older protagonists, less romance, more shenanigans. I wanted more every-day life scenes, something closer to the comedic, satirical novels of Terry Pratchett and Robert Asprin. I know they’re out there - I’ve heard whispers of them in lonely corners of forgotten forums - but my search results have been slim. So, I would write it myself.

Of course, that naturally led to the anthology call, for what is the point of having my own publishing company if I’m not going to publish others?

Everything went much smoother for a first big project than I had anticipated. The edits were done two months ahead of the planned schedule, all the design and formatting work done weeks ahead of allotted time, and the pre-order upload completed a month ahead of time.

Time for the most dreaded part of publishing: Let the marketing begin!

For anyone who’s followed along on this little infrequently posted blog, I hope you check out the anthology and enjoy reading it as much as the authors enjoyed writing it.

Until next time,

Stay Magical!
